I Used to Think I Had to Choose.

For years, I believed the lie that I couldn't have both.
I worked in corporate fundraising for children's health before becoming a virtual assistant. When I started my VA business five years ago, I thought I'd found the answer to getting out of corporate before becoming a mom—freedom, flexibility, income on my terms.
That business led me to coaching. I started teaching women how to become virtual assistants and service providers. And it was working—I was making multiple six figures, building an agency, watching my business grow. In a way it was the answer.
But somewhere along the way, I got caught up in boss babe culture.
I started paying to be in rooms where hustle was praised and rest was laziness. I was waking up at 5am because mentors told me "you have to earn your time before you do mommy duty." I put my daughter in school more days so I could work more hours. I was outsourcing groceries, hiring help, trying to scale by doing more.
I had to keep up. Build, build, build. Scale, scale, scale.
And on the outside? It looked like it was working.
I built a multi-six-figure business.
Coaching women was profitable. I even had a successful agency—clients were winning, and I had revenue.
But I was exhausted. Snappy with my husband. Couldn't be fully present with my kids. My brain wouldn't shut off. I was sacrificing my mental health, my peace, my presence—I loved coaching and teaching, but I knew deep down—this isn't it.
And Then God Got My Attention.
Clients started dropping out of the agency.
People left my coaching programs.
My income was going down.
I remember one morning, making smoothies for my kids, and I just started crying. My heart would literally pound in my chest when I woke up. I had so much anxiety. I felt depressed.
And I realized: God was pruning.
He was taking things away to protect me. To get my attention.
Because I had gotten away from what He called me to. I wasn't stewarding the actual gifts and blessings He gave me—my kids, my marriage, my peace. I was building what the world said instead of what God said.
So I surrendered.
I prayed: "Your will be done. Your will be done. Your will be done."
And everything started to click.
I don't wake up at 5:00am anymore.
In fact, I get great sleep. I wake up at 7am, make my kids breakfast, take them to school, go to the gym, and then I work.
Mondays are my long days. Every other day? I'm done by noon.
Because when my kids come home, I'm Mom. Not "business owner who's distracted." Not "entrepreneur who can't shut her brain off." Just Mom.
I'm not sacrificing my family anymore. I'm not snappy with my husband. I'm not stretched thin.
I lead worship at my church. I go to Women's Bible study on Thursdays. I have date nights. I'm present for bedtime, for school pickup, for the moments that matter.
And my business? It's thriving.
Not because I'm hustling 40+ hours a week.
But because I'm building with God as CEO.
